Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, has taken a monumental leap into the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with the launch of its first-ever Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara. Unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and flagged off for production by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 26, 2025, at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, the e Vitara marks a pivotal moment for Maruti Suzuki and India’s automotive industry.

Built on the innovative HEARTECT-e platform, the e Vitara is designed to compete with rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra BE 6.

Launch Details

The e Vitara’s production commenced at Suzuki Motor Gujarat, with a significant portion earmarked for export to over 100 countries, including Japan and Europe, aligning with India’s “Make in India” initiative.

The SUV is set to hit Indian roads on September 3, 2025, positioning it as Maruti Suzuki’s most premium offering yet. With an expected ex-showroom price range of ₹15-20 lakh, the e Vitara aims to capitalize on government subsidies like FAME-II to make it competitive against its rivals.

Design: Bold, Modern, and Aerodynamic

The e Vitara’s exterior design blends Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA “Crafted Futurism” philosophy with EV-specific enhancements, distinguishing it from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Grand Vitara. Key design highlights include:

Closed Grille Design: A sleek, gloss-black panel replaces the traditional grille, integrated with the Suzuki emblem and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The charging port is cleverly placed beneath the logo or on the front fenders, depending on the variant.

LED Lighting: The SUV features NEXTré 3-Point Matrix LED DRLs, full-LED projector headlamps, connected taillights, and dynamic turn indicators, enhancing both aesthetics and visibility.

Aerodynamic Enhancements: Flush door handles, 18-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels with Goodyear tires, and a rear spoiler reduce drag, boosting efficiency.

Bold SUV Stance: With a length of 4,275 mm, width of 1,800 mm, height of 1,635 mm, and a 2,700 mm wheelbase, the e Vitara offers a muscular yet compact profile. Its 180 mm ground clearance and 5.2-meter turning radius ensure maneuverability.
